Marble is widely used material in making sculptures. Likewise, it is also considered a building material known for its uniqueness, durability and elegance. However, there are certain factors that can significantly affect the overall appearance of this important construction material such as exposure to alcoholic beverages as well as contact with acidic fruits. In case stains and stubborn dirt develop, it is good to know how to clean marble.
Materials Needed
It is very easy to do this task. All it takes is the right materials and knowledge to perform this job. The things needed for this include warm water, soft cloth and soft sponge. At the same time, prepare a dishwashing liquid, preferably a brand that contains no bleach. In addition, prepare a spray bottle or a small bowl. When these items are complete, you can proceed with the cleaning process right away by following these basic steps.
Steps
Get a clean bowl. Fill it with warm water. Slowly add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. In case you have a spray bottle, you can use it instead of the bowl. If you are using a bowl, soak the sponge in the soapy warm water. Gently wipe off the dirt from the surface of the marble. On the other hand, if you are using a spray bottle, spray a few amounts of the soapy solution right onto the area to be cleaned. Just like the other way, wipe the dirt off the surface with the sponge.
When choosing the right kind of sponge for the job, choose a soft one in order not to cause etches and scratches on the marble. Once the entire area is cleaned thoroughly, you can now rinse the marble. To do this, replace the soapy water inside the bowl with fresh clean water, preferably warm. Rinse the sponge as well to free it from soap residue. Use the sponge to rinse the soap from the surface.
Use clean towel or soft cloth to dry the wet surface. Never leave the newly cleaned surface wet. Instead, dry it thoroughly before leaving. It is good to develop a regular habit of cleaning. This will eliminate the need for extensive and tiring cleaning. In order for stains and stubborn dirt to develop, clean them as often as possible.
Additional Tips and Other Helpful Information
Never leave the marble dry off by itself. Instead of doing this, try to wipe it dry first. Avoid having alcoholic beverages and acidic fruits to be in contact with its surface as they may lead to stains and discoloration. Furthermore, do not put things that can significantly affect the way it looks.
